General Motors & Honda Sign a Pact to Manufacture Affordable Electric Vehicles Together

American auto giant General Motors (GM) and Japan-based multinational auto brand Honda Motor Company recently entered into a new relationship. As per media reports, these two reputed companies have decided to collaborate to make a series of affordable electric vehicles based on advanced technology and a new global architecture. It is believed that these two companies will use next-generation Ultium battery technology to meet this business endeavor.

Moreover, GM and Honda will also work together to develop more advanced EV battery technology in order to reduce the cost of electrification. The duo is also touted to enhance their cooperation to boost the performance of electric vehicles to enhance its widespread adoption. Both these companies will commence their operations in 2027 by combining the best technologies, designs, and sourcing strategies of both eminent brands.

It is widely believed and reported in media circles that GM and Honda are going to give the Electric Vehicle manufacturing market a great boost by manufacturing millions of electric cars worldwide. The key focus of this manufacturing endeavor is to tap the market of the small crossovers segment which is the largest in the world with a yearly sales of more than 13 million cars.

Interestingly, this is not the first time these two auto giants have come together. Back then in 2013, these two companies joined hands to co-develop next-generation fuel systems and hydrogen storage technologies. Also in 2018, GM and Honda collaborated for EV battery module development efforts.

Speaking on the announcement of this new partnership, Mary Barra, CEO, of General Motors said, “This is a key step to deliver on our commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in our global products and operations by 2040 and eliminate tailpipe emissions from light-duty vehicles in the U.S. by 2035. By working together, we will put people all over the world into EVs faster than either company could achieve on its own.”
