General Motors Invests $81 Million for Electric Vehicle Manufacturing in Michigan
General Motors (GM), an American multinational automotive company that is known for its high-end vehicles is now boosting its efforts to promote green mobility. The company recently decided to hand- build Cadillac Celestiq, its new electric flagship car in Warren Tech Center, Michigan. It is going to invest almost $81 million to strengthen this endeavor.
This will be the first time GM will build commercial sales vehicles at its advanced tech center which was designed by Finnish architect Eero Saarinen and his father Eliel Saarinen way before in 1956. Interestingly, this will be the first time when GM will build a vehicle for commercial sales at its massive tech campus in Warren, Michigan.
The new vehicle is expected to cost $2,00,000 or more and will be built in a very limited quantity. According to AFS (AutoForecast Solutions), GM is planning to manufacture approximately 400 units/year. However, the company declined to comment on the numbers.
The proposed electric vehicle will also have many exciting features like
● A four-quadrant rooftop enables each passenger to set their own level of roof transparency.
● A new interior screen display that includes more than 100 3D printed parts (structural and cosmetic).
Although machines will be used in making hand-built vehicles but are largely controlled by humans. A drastic change as compared with assembly lines where numerous robots work alongside workers.
“As Cadillac’s future flagship sedan, Celestiq signifies a new, resurgent era for the brand,” GM President Mark Reuss said in a statement.
